About SnowfallTotal

SnowfallTotal collects snowfall totals from across the United States in one fast, simple place: live storm reports by state, city, region and ZIP code, this season's storm-by-storm totals, and each town's average snowfall.

Our data

• Live and storm totals — National Weather Service Local Storm Reports (trained spotters, CoCoRaHS observers, NWS staff, airports and cooperative observers), retrieved from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet at Iowa State University.
• Average snowfall — NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, 1991–2020 U.S. Climate Normals. Each city uses the nearest station with a complete record, preferring official NWS stations and similar elevation.
• Places and ZIP codes — GeoNames, licensed under CC BY 4.0.
